Angeles Red Cross collects 190 bags in recent blood-letting program

The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Pampanga-Angeles Chapter was able to collect a total 190 blood bags during the recent blood-letting program held at the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) in Camp Olivas, Pampanga.

Augusto B. Ocampo, administrator of the PNRC Pampanga-Angeles Chapter, said the blood-letting program was timely because of the alarming increase of the dengue cases in the region.

Dengue victims needed to have their lost blood replaced right away.

City government re-launched the Citizen’s Charter

Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan led the re-launching of the Citizen’s Charter in order to help curb “red tape” in government services, last Thursday at the Sangunian Session Hall.

The mayor acknowledges that the Republic Act 9485, also known as the anti-red tape act is an important factor in lessening and eventual removal of graft and corruption in local governance.

Pamintuan said during the re-launching that they need to “imbibe among all employees of city hall a culture of prompt, efficient and transparent service.” He also reminded government employees to always wear a smile whenever they provide services to the people and looks forward to making the city hall “a model and benchmark of efficiency and client-friendly service.”

Swiss company to set up P285 M plant inside Clark

Switzerland-based Special Precision Tools (SPT) Clark Corporation recently signed an agreement with Clark Development Corporation (CDC) to invest in Clark Freeport Zone.

The Swiss firm will invest in a P285-million manufacturing firm which will be established inside the Philexcel Business Park in Clark.

SPT will be leasing a total land area of 4,872 square meters inside Philexcel, said CDC President Antonio Felipe B. Remollo. The manufacturing plant is expected to supply the needs of various firms which include Texas Instruments, Siemens, and other leading semi-conductor firms in Clark.

Medical City opens in Angeles City

The Medical City opens in Angeles City, and it is located at Sto. Entierro St., Sto. Cristo Village.

Housed at the former Mercedez Medical Center (also known as Pamana), the 50-bed hospital was added to The Medical City (TMC) chains of hospitals.

TMC executive Anne Ruth dela Cruz said the opening of TMC-Angeles is in line with the company’s thrust to develop a national network serving a wider geographic and socio-economic base.

Angeles City dialysis center formally opens

The Angeles City Renal Care Unit at the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (formerly Ospital ning Angeles or ONA) formally opened last Saturday to serve the needs of patients suffering from kidney or renal failure.

The dialysis center is located at the newly-constructed Luminda A. Ong building. It has 15 dialysis machines and complete sets of medical equipments. It being supervised by three nephrologists, a head nurse, eight staff nurses and four technicians.

Earthquake hits Central Luzon

An earthquake shakes Central Luzon on Tuesday at around 1:15 a.m.

The Philippine Volcanology and Seismology Institue (Philvolcs) recorded the tremor at magnitude 6.2, while the United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured it 5.9 magnitude.

The earthquake was recorded at Intensity IV in Clark, Pampanga, Quezon City and Manila. Makati, Pasig, Taguig and Mandaluyong experienced it at Intensity III, while it was Intensity II in Baguio City. It was also felt in surrounding areas.

The monthly event, Art at the Park, will feature Storytelling by Mr. Dan Dizon as he recounts his World War II memories when he was still a 12-year old boy.

Tatang Dan Dizon is the author of the book, Amidst Unsung Heroes: An Eyewitness Account. There will also be book sale and autograph signing at the event.

SING, SING RIZAL: A KAPAMPANGAN SONGWRITING COMPETITION

UPDATE: As per organizers: This competition has been canceled and in lieu of the Sing Sing Rizal, a new format competition will be out soon. For everybody’s guidance.

Another songwriting contest for Kapampangan Songwriters. The Sing Sing Rizal: A Kapampangan Songwriting Competition spearheaded by the Center for Kapampangan Studies of Holy Angel University.

Contest rules are:

1. The contest is open to amateur or professional songwriters, Kapampangan or non-Kapampangan, residing anywhere in the country or abroad.  The members of the Rizal Sesquicentennial National Technical Working Group and staffers of the Center for Kapampangan Studies, including their immediate families, are disqualified from joining.

2. Entries should be original compositions, in pure Kapampangan or bilingual (Kapampangan-English, Kapampangan-Filipino, etc.).  The lyrics must reflect Rizal’s life, works and values, and must appeal to the youth.  Entries that contain obscene, offensive and politically incorrect lyrics shall be disqualified.
