June 15 is special non-working holiday in Pampanga

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption, June 15 has been declared a special non-working holiday as announced by the provincial government of Pampanga last Friday.

House Bill 3948 has also been approved earlier by the congress declaring June 15 of every year as a special non-working holiday for Pampanga and its cities on the occasion of Mt. Pinatubo Memorial Day.

Is this true? I have read earlier that it was not yet approved in the Senate. Kindly clarify if this was declared only by Gov. Pineda and does not need Senate’s approval.

That is quite inaccurate. The House Bill filed by 3rd District Pampanga Rep. Dong Gonzales just passed first reading and was thereafter referred to the particular House Committee. Incidentally, Congress adjourned its sessions late last week and will only convene on the second Tuesday of July when President Aquino delivers his SONA. There is as yet no Provincial Legislative measure or any Executive Order from the Office of the Governor declaring June 15 a local holiday.
